Redesigning an LMS platform for usability, branding, and scale

Improving how MSP teams create, manage, and find learning content through a redesigned product experience and scalable design system

The Challenge

Empath MSP had recently updated its brand, but the LMS experience had not yet fully reflected the new visual direction.

The interface felt inconsistent, and key workflows were creating friction, especially content creation, course management, and content discovery.

A clearer, more polished, and more scalable product experience was needed.

The Approach

The platform was audited to identify usability issues, visual inconsistencies, and friction across key workflows.

User feedback and product behavior were analyzed to guide the redesign. Microsoft Clarity was also implemented to support decisions with heatmaps and session recordings.

A new design system was created to support the updated brand, reusable components, light and dark themes, and faster feature delivery.

AI was used as a support tool throughout the process to keep product copy consistent, evaluate interface clarity, ideate complex flows, and create branded illustrations with the company mascot.

Feedback

The redesigned LMS was received positively by users, who described the experience as easier to navigate and more intuitive.

The updated interface was also well received by the company owners for bringing the new brand into the product more consistently.

For the development team, reusable patterns helped make future features easier and faster to build.

Takeaways

This redesign went beyond visual polish.

A stronger product foundation was created through clearer workflows, improved brand consistency, reusable design patterns, and thoughtful use of AI in the design process.

The biggest impact was clarity across the user experience, the interface, and the product development process.
